this page is dedicated to the memory of my beautiful baby hedgehog, piglet. it is meant to be a photo album of sorts--and believe me, there are plenty of pictures of her--most of which won't be on this page! cherish the pictures and the memories -- i do.

piglet was born september 9, 1996. she entered my life when i picked her up in grand prarie, tx, and brought her to her new home in dallas on october 24. shortly thereafter, she became the center of my universe. this is the baby when she really was just a baby -- she was just 7 weeks old when this picture was taken.

piglet's first year was pretty low-key. she used to run around my room all night. when i would study on the floor with her, she would curl up next to me. she made friends with my two cats in iowa. tiger, the older cat, would let piglet burrow underneath him. cody, the younger cat, was quite curious. when piglet would get lost in the house, i just had to tell cody to "go find piglet," and he would. here he is "piglet-sitting."

piglet went just about everywhere with me. we flew and drove all over the country. she even wrote her own webpage, detailing her adventures with bryan white (the link is at the bottom of the page.

in april of 1997, piglet got to be my date for a wedding. i was a bridesmaid in the wedding of my friends in south dakota, and she flew up there with me.

piglet and i moved to nashville in 1997. she made friends with a new cat, tuffy. tuffy liked to climb in piglet's cage, and eat her food.
piglet had 3 goals in life: 1) to sleep; 2) to be warm; and 3) to be under something. here she is in an effort to achieve that 3rd goal. doesn't she have the cutest butt in the whole world? :)
she also happened to have the cutest nose, and the cutest tummy.

while we were in nashville, my family had a reunion. so piglet and i drove to branson, mo. piglet was definitely a part of the family. here we are, along with a great-uncle.

we celebrated piglet's first birthday in dallas. she had a birthday party, and even got presents! her guests that year were her friends: melody, jamie, and nicki.

this is the picture that started it all: piglet was a ghost for halloween 1997. ok, so she's just hiding under a kleenex -- but she's pretty scary!

we took Christmas pictures for our cards that year, too. but piglet had not quite yet mastered the art of posing.

piglet and i went home to iowa for her easter pictures. she did incredible imitations of both the easter bunny and an easter egg.

the long-awaited day (by my father) came in may, 1998: i finally graduated from college. of course, piglet was there.
piglet and i spent the summer of 1998 at home in iowa. she got into plenty of mischief.

my parents decided to remodel our house. piglet and i had very few comforts--but at least we had a tv.

piglet got into the fourth of july spirit. but she didn't especially like the fireworks!

piglet and i started law school in august 1998. here are some of her "first day of law school" pictures--and her scholarly poses.

piglet had her 2nd birthday party on september 9, 1998. her law school friends attended. they were patrick, dennis, erica, jenna, and laura. of course, she got more presents, and even a cake!

piglet was a witch for halloween 1998, but she ended up getting cooked herself.

piglet and i took many many many Christmas pictures in 1998. several were taken at santa's village in richardson, tx. we also took some in front of a friend's tree. piglet liked to snoop in all the presents at home.

piglet was cupid for valentine's day, but not even she could help her mama :)

in 1999, piglet and i spent half of the summer in dallas. the second half of the summer, we had to part ways. i went to school in cambridge, england, and -- as much as it killed me -- i had to leave my baby behind. but she was in the very capable hands of her grandma in iowa.

when we both returned to dallas, it was straight back to law school. no matter how much homework i had, piglet was right there beside me.

piglet's third birthday party took place while we were house-sitting. once again, she had her own cake, and got more presents (but she wasn't spoiled or anything :) her friends this year were brenda, johnny, jamie, and mike.

piglet was a spider and (briefly) a mummy for halloween in 1999. these were among the last few pictures taken of her.

piglet started to get sick around november 14, 1999. we played games the night before, but she would not eat. we went to the vet on the 16th, but nothing seemed to be wrong. we went home with some antibiotics, and a lot of hope. i left her room for a short time after we got home. when i went back in, she was walking toward me. when she saw me, she fell--her tiny legs were too weak to carry her. i slept by her cage that night. the morning of the 17th, shortly after i gave her the medication, she died in my arms.

and that's all there is of my baby girl. we had 3 very short - but very fulfilling - years together. i just hope she could feel how much she was loved.

piglet was laid to rest on november 20, 1999. she is buried in a corner where she loved to play at our house in iowa.

i know she's watching over me somewhere--with her white angel wings and her tiny halo. but she's not flying -- that would be too much effort. no, she's hiding beneath her wings, sleeping peacefully on a soft fluffy cloud.

if you can't tell from this page, i'm pretty head-over-heels over this hedgehog. silly -- yes, but she really was the sunshine in my life. there is so much more to her story than could ever fit on this page. i'm incredibly thankful for the 3 years i had with piglet. i'm also more thankful than words can say that i have such amazing friends. thanks especially to jamie, cheryl, kim, and allison (and kids) -- i don't know how i could have made it through without you. i love you.

to my darling piglet:

because i love you so much, my baby girl. my life changed for the better when you came into it, and now it will never be the same. i loved you with all of my heart and my soul, and i always will. you were the center of my universe -- the strength behind everything i have done in the past 3 years. thank you for all that, for letting me love you, and for letting me call you "mine".
