This is one of three state census records extant before 1850, the other two being Fairfield (1829) and Kershaw (1839) Districts. Head of Household is listed followed by the number in the household, including the Head of Household. It is not alphabetized because the names were added as the census takers progressed in their duty. Names are [sic].

Agreeable to an Act of the Legislator [sic] of South Carolina passes the 19th day of December in the year of Our Lord 1828 and in the 53rd year of the Independence of the United States of America Directing a Census of all the free white inhabitants of this State to be taken and a resolution of the Same appointed me to take a Census of the Election District of Laurens, a Western Circuit Court District & after having been duly qualified as the Law directs to return the following to be an honest, true, faithful and impartial Census of the district to which I have been appointed.
