JASON
LEVI LANGSTON
When sixteen years
old, Jason joined the army and served as a private on the Union
side. He was in the 70th Illinois Unit which was not mustered
in until July 4, 1862.
He performed guard
duty at Camp Butler, Illinois until they were mustered out on October
23, 1862.
He experienced an
injury [although not due to combat] and was discharged. His
unit was not in combat and 19 men were lost to disease in that brief time.
After some time,
he reinlisted in the 43rd Illinois Infantry on March 18, 1865, but
he missed the war, and basically was on guard duty again in Little Rock
for eight months.
