TO THE UNITED DAUGHTERS OF THE CONFEDERACY: 

The undersigned, residing at Laurens S.C., who is the oldest son of George McDuffie Langston, a Confederate soldier, hereby presents this Certificate of Eligibility for a Southern Cross of Honor. 

My father entered the service of the Confederate States on the 14th day of April, 1861, as a Sergeant in Company ' I ' of the 3rd S.C. Regiment Infantry Volunteers C.S.A., and was at that time a resident of Laurens County. 

He was wounded at the battle of Gettysburg, P.A. and was honorably discharged from said service by wounds on the 2nd day of July, 1863, at which time he held the rank of 1st Sergeant Company ' I ', and died on the 20th day April, 1898. 

In securing this Cross of Honor, I solemnly affirm I shall abide by the rules and regulations governing the bestowal of the Cross, and shall under no circumstances either wear it or allow it to be worn.
