THE LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT   OF
LOT LANGSTON
(1794-1870)

From Will Book 1, Nansemond County, VA

I, Lot Langston, of the County of Nansemond and State of Virginia do make this my last will and testament, revoking all former wills if any made by me at any time heretofore made.
  • 1st item, I give all the property advanced to my son Thomas Langston and his heirs forever.
  • 2nd item, I give all the property advanced to my son James Langston and his heirs forever.
  • 3rd item, I loan to my son Jesse Langston, the plantation I now live on to him, provided the said Jesse Langston is to pay all my just debts, and at his death I give the above tract of lands to his children and their heirs and assigns forever.
  • 4th item, I give all the balance of my property not otherwise disposed of to my girls (sic) children namely
    • Armeasy, the wife of Levi Read,
    • Debra, the wife of Washington Read, and
    • Elizabeth, the wife of Jacob Sawyer,
    • Virginia, the wife of Dempsey Sawyer, and
    • Wealtha the wife of Eli Williams,
    • Malissa the wife of David Sawyer, and their heirs and assigns forever. 
  • Lastly I do hereby nominate and appoint my friend E.C.Riddick to execute this my last will and testament and without being required to give security as the law directs, where I have here unto set my hand affixed my seal, this 3rd day of April 1870.
