The following data I have gathered and compiled for the benefit of those who claim a lineage that is traced back to a SOLOMON LANGSTON, and most particularly for the ones that desire that their ancestry be accurate, as the records available will support them. It is also my heartfelt desire that future researchers will cease repeating the same mistakes over and over that has occurred in descendants that trace their ancestry back to a SOLOMON LANGSTON.
Due to the fact that several publications, in the form of books or booklets, have repeated and passed on the same mistakes, and a number of those that claim descent from one of the SOLOMON LANGSTONS have accepted the data that they have given as GOSPEL.
Some have made application and have been admitted into such organizations as the Daughters of the American Revolution and other patriotic organizations, by using the data that they have obtained from several publications as follows:
The SOLOMON LANGSTON shown in the books mentioned above, was to have gone to Georgia ca 1800 and died before 1827, his wife, ELIZABETH CAMP LANGSTON was stated to have received land in Muscogee Co., Ga., in the 1827 lottery as a widow. There was an ELIZABETH LANGSTON receiving land in that lottery, but she was not the same person, and is given in the following pages.
The following pages will support the fact that SOLOMON LANGSTON JR. RN 59785 was born ca 1775, and remained in South Carolina until his death ca 1865, and also show that his wife was not ELIZABETH CAMP.
Please see the Hypothetical Census (below) which purposes
to show approximately how the family of SOLOMON and ELIZABETH (CAMP) LANGSTON
family would have been written had they been located on any 1800 census.

The SOLOMON LANGSTON in Georgia was not the son of SOLOMON LANGSTON, SR., whose Will was proved in Court Aug. 15, 1825. The SOLOMON LANGSTON RN 142 who was the son of JOHN LANGSTON RN 6055 had a son and according to the following records, he did remain in South Carolina. Also, SOLOMON LANGSTON, SR.RN 142, had a son by the name of BENNETT LANGSTON RN 409, which causes one to doubt that SOLOMON LANGSTON RN 142 named a son SOLOMON BENNETT LANGSTON and another BENNETT LANGSTON. But, that is another family, it is told that the Covington County Mississippi, SOLOMON LANGSTON'S middle name was also BENNETT, but there has been found no records shown obtained during his lifetime to substantiate it.
SOLOMON LANGSTON RN 142 of Laurens, S. C. (son of JOHN LANGSTON RN 6055, 1710-1790) married SARAH BENNETT RN 143 who was the daughter of RICHARD RN 6038 and ANN BENNETT RN 6041, and for this reason some dubbed SOLOMON LANGSTON RN 142 and SARAH (BENNETT) LANGSTON'S RN 143 son SOLOMON BENNETT LANGSTON, but as stated there has been no records found to prove such. By doing this, it only confuses those trying to accurately compile their ancestry. This too, could imply that this SOLOMON LANGSTON could be a son of ABSOLOM LANGSTON RN 7247 and his wife CHRISTINE {Christian in these files}(BENNETT) LANGSTON RN 6042 who was a sister of SARAH BENNETT RN 143, and ABSOLOM LANGSTON RN 7247 who was a brother of SOLOMON LANGSTON RN 142, both being sons of JOHN LANGSTON RN 6055 (1710-1790).
In studying census and other records in Georgia and the later records of Covington, County, Mississippi, we find the same surnames that have known relationship and (neighborly) connections with each other in the same places. It can only be decided from this that many of these families migrating from one place to another went there in the same wagon trains, since they were arriving at the same time and coming from the same places. In Covington County, Mississippi, we find people by the same surnames as were associated earlier from whence they all came in Georgia.
It was stated that the SOLOMON LANGSTON RN 407 of Covington County, Mississippi, went to Mobile, Alabama for awhile then returned to Covington, County Mississippi. If that statement implied that SOLOMON LANGSTON enumerated in the 1830 Alabama Census was the same man then it is in error. The SOLOMON LANGSTON in the 1830 Mobile, Alabama Census is shown to be 30-40 years of age, while the SOLOMON LANGSTON RN 407 shown in the 1840 Covington County, Mississippi Census was shown as being 60-7- years of age. The above Census records are most probably correct, and also the 1880 Census of Covington County Mississippi, which some have intimated as being in error. The 1880 Covington County, Mississippi, is very clear and most legible. The enumerator of this census appears to have been very proficient and capable in handling his duties, and the certification written by him at the end of the Census would cause anyone to believe he was accurate and truthful. He was J. H. KELLY and the Census was taken June 30 1880. The census of WILLIAM WORTHY RN 34842 and his wife ANN ELIZABETH (LANGSTON) WORTHY RN 34846, who was the daughter of SOLOMON LANGSTON RN 34801 and MARY (REDDOCH) LANGSTON RN 34843, clearly indicates that both SOLOMON LANGSTON RN 407 and his wife were born in GEORGIA.
Another Census Record that is found in the Freestone County Texas 1880 enumerations is that of F. W. SPEED RN 34976 and HESTER (LANGSTON) SPEED RN 34977. HESTER RN 34977 was also the daughter of SOLOMON LANGSTON RN 34801 and MARY (REDDOCH) LANGSTON RN 34843, and the sister of ANN ELIZABETH (LANGSTON) WORTHY RN 34846. This census also shows the birth place of both these sisters as being GEORGIA.
WILLIAM WORTHY RN 34842 and ANN ELIZABETH (LANGSTON) WORTHY RN 34846 named one of their sons ANDERSON KENNY WORTHY RN 34844, in regard to this please refer to the Will of JOSHUA KENNY in Hancock County, Georgia, and the Guardian records in the following notes.
The above few records should be sufficient to show that the Covington, County, Mississippi SOLOMON LANGSTON RN 407 was born in Georgia, but additional data follows. Most of JOHN LANGSTONS RN 6055 sons are shown in the N. C. Tax lists, and in most instances are shown with him and naming them as his sons. This is how it is possible to prove that ABSALOM LANGSTON RN 7247 was the son of JOHN LANGSTON RN 6055. These Tax lists run into the 1760's, and there are numerous other records of the LANGSTON family in Granville County, N. C.
Some of this family migrated to South Carolina at various times, but two of the earliest to settle there were JAMES LANGSTON RN 6057 and SOLOMON LANGSTON RN 142. "CLAIMS OF BRITISH MERCHANTS after the REVOLUTIONARY WAR" by Ransom McBride, list American debtors who had contracted debts before the Revolutionary War. They were living in Granville, Franklin, Warren, Orange, Chatham and Person Counties, North Carolina. Among these debtors were: JAMES LANGSTON RN 6057 10 Mar. 1775 f 26.5.2 pg. 29 Removed to S. C. near the Golden Grove. SOLOMON LANGSTON RN 142 17 Jan ---- f 0.2.6 f 62.18.11 pg. 14 & 19 Removed to S. C. and Enoree River
The preceding page gives the approximate time that SOLOMON LANGSTON RN 142 the Son of JOHN LANGSTON RN 6055 (1710-1790) arrived in South Carolina. The debtors listed in the list mentioned all arrive and settled in other places around the dates 1773, 1774, or 1775. The Census record of SOLOMON LANGSTON, JR., RN 59785 shows that he was born in South Carolina, which is another source for the time his father actually arrived and settled on ENOREE RIVER in South Carolina. See 1860 Census, and location in records following.
SOLOMON LANGSTON (SR) RN 142 1790 Census, Laurens District, S. C.
In the 1800 Census for Laurens District, S. C., SOLOMON LANGSTON RN 59785 is put in a particular place by being specifically introduced as and in the name of SOLOMON LANGSTON, JR. RN 59785 as seen in the preceding pages he was between the ages of 16 and 26. Other Census records are also in accord with the time he was born, and a following Census record does show also that he was born in SOUTH CAROLINA about 1775. Debtors shown previously that owed the British Merchants included SOLOMON LANGSTON SR. RN 142 and JAMES LANGSTON RN 6057 places them in South Carolina, about the time that SOLOMON LANGSTON, JR. RN 59785 was born.
A letter from Minnie D. Clark, Rte 1, Clinton, S. c. dated 1966 in which she stated that SOLOMON LANGSTON, JR., RN 59785, died in the "Poor House" and the LANGSTON CHURCH book had his death recorded as 10-9-1865, (the 9th of October 1865). The book is in the possession of Miss T. Holland, 203 E. Centennial St, Clinton, S. C. (1966). The State Regent of the South Carolina D A R, Mrs. Fred (Joyce) Ellis RN 13880 who is a LANGSTON descendant of SOLOMON LANGSTON RN 142 and lives on the old SOLOMON LANGSTON RN 142 land persuaded Miss Holland to Micro Film the Church Book, and it is now in the Furman Univ. at Greenville, S. C. Furman Library.
Mrs. Clark stated that her grandmother remarked that SOLOMON LANGSTON RN 59785 would not live with other members of the family and his 1st wife always wore silk, and that he wore black broadcloth as long as it would hang on him. His first wife had a daughter MARY RN 59787 who married a WHITE RN 59788, and was said to have married well. In his old age, he again married {RN 59795} and had a son MARION RN 59796, but her grandmother did not know who raised him, but he was known to have been living in the Spartanburg area at one time.
