1926 GIBSON FAMILY REUNION
August 18, 1926 - (Newspaper clipping)
Andrew and Jane McSparren Gibson, natives of County Down, Ireland, early settlers of Brookville, Jefferson Co., coming to the village of Newfille, now Creekside, Indiana County, in the year of 1814. Staunch in Christian faith, earnest hard working folk of Scotch-Irish parentage, this couple reared a family of four sons, three serving their flag with loyalty in the Civil War, and two daughters, of this union. Mrs. Amanda E. Getty, now in her 76th year and the last living member, resides at her onme on East Oak Street, Indiana, Pa. Descendants of this union, their wives, children, and sweethearts, numbering more than 60, gathered for a reunion in our city, August 17, 1926, in honor of Mrs. Amanda Getty. Inclement weather caused a change of plan, and the guests sojourned to the spacious garage of Jno E. Gibson, where large, well laden tables were spread with the good things to eat, which disappeared as by magic. Special mention of the ladies, whose capacity for food far surpassed the men folk. An association was formed, and the following persons wre elected officers for the ensuing year. President: Jno E. Gibson, Indiana, Pa. Vice President: Mrs. Belle McHenry, Creekside, Pa. Secretary: Mrs. John Cummins, Indiana, Pa.; and Charles W. Getty of Indiana as Treasurer. A short business session, including some very instructive talks of the history of this family, and other subjects of interest. The meeting adjourned for a talk to each other or an all talk at once affair, in which all enjoyed and will be remembered by everyone present. Among the long distance visitors were Mrs. Alfred Hine, Mrs. Wm. Robinson, and son Joseph, of Pittsburgh. Mrs Wilda Brown and two children of Detroit, Michigan; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Uncapher, and four children of Smicksburg, Pa.
