Johan Geiger Letter
ð{°
Johan Geiger was a clergyman. On November 3, 1947, he wrote a letter to his Uncle David Geiger in Madison, WI. The letter was written in German, and after so many years, it was translated in July, 2002. Here is that letter:
"Dear Uncle: I would like to send you news from home. I, Johann Geiger, am the oldest son of your brother, Wilhelm. Your brother, Wilhelm, my father, died over six months ago. Your other brother, who was a clergyman, has been dead these past eight years. Thanks be to God that we were fortunate enough to survive the terrible war years, which brought us so much wretchedness and deprivation. Although so much has been destroyed as a result of the war, your family home is still intact, standing as it did 50 or 100 years ago. However, we still have very difficult times to endure. We had a drought this summer, and people are faced with famine. But with God's help, we hope to get through this difficult period also. I send you greetings from your home. In the event that my uncle is no longer alive, I would like to greet his family. Hopefully, this letter will find it's way to you. Please send us news and once more greetings from your nephew.
