Joining the Society

The Ashland County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society, PO Box 681, Ashland OH 44805-0681, for a $7.00 membership fee ($10 family), offers a quarterly newsletter called "The Pastfinder". The editor is Rita Bone Kopp of Ashland. The current issue is Vol. 17, Issue 1, February 1998. Articles in this issue, as an example include my President's message on Organization; a listing of the 1997 First Families of Ashland County recipients and their ancestors; Common Pleas court chancery case abstracts from 1850-1851; Rev. H.D. Ruth story out of Newville; obituary of Samuel Smith 1876 of Ashland; a map of the Town of Ashland - Sandusky Street businesses dated 1861 from McDonnell's Atlas; story of Sandusky Street landmarks which appeared in Ashland Press in 1904; with pictures of the courthouse and jail drawn by
Henry Howe in 1846; and article on Markley's Cemetery which was removed to the city cemetery in 1905; lots of queries; books for sale; meeting announcements, etc.
