Bernard J. Brinkman, owned Brinkman's Service Station. Bernard J. Brinkman was a father figure to many youngsters who came to his service stations to work on their bicycles. ''He would get after them if they did something wrong,'' said his wife, K. Loraine Lahner Brinkman. ''They listened to him. They all thought a lot of him.'' Mr. Brinkman, 80, of Covington, died at 12:45 a.m. Monday at his home. He was the retired owner of Brinkman's Service Station, with lo- cations in Erlanger, Covington and Woodlawn. If people didn't have money to pay for their gasoline, he would let them get it anyway. When people needed help with electric bills, Brinkman would pay them. ''He was a very generous man,'' Mrs. Brinkman said. ''In Newport, they had a special night to honor him because they thought so much of him.'' Mr. Brinkman was a member of St. Patrick Church, Independence. He also was a member of the church Irish Rovers, Covington Senior Citizens and Disabled American Veterans. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He enjoyed golf. Mr. Brinkman and his wife were married 52 years. Other survivors include sons, David Brinkman of Fort Thomas and Greg Brinkman of Elsmere; a daughter, Diane McPherson of Florence; a sister, Gertrude Harlow of Covington; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian burial will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick Church. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Home-Health Hospice, 401 E. 20th St., Covington, Ky. 41014. Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia, is handling arrangements.
