PANAMA CITY, Fla. (Dec. 23) -- A tractor-trailer rig carrying more than 800 pounds of marijuana worth more than half a million dollars was seized and three Texas men were arrested Dec. 22 as part of an ongoing investigation into marijuana smuggling, The News Herald of Panama City reported Dec. 23.
The newspaper said that according to arrest complaints, "law enforcement officers from the Bay County Sheriff's Office and FDLE, acting in an undercover capacity, met with (two of the) defendants (who) agreed to provide over 800 pounds of cannabis. The two defendants directed the undercover officers to a particular location in Bay County where they met with (the third defendant), who was operating a tractor-trailer rig," according to Dave Cifuni, resident agent in charge of Panama City's Drug Enforcement Agency office.
Everyone then traveled to a location near State 20 and U.S. 231 "where all the subjects were arrested."
The evening bust resulted in the seizure of between 800 and 850 pounds of baled marijuana - valued at about $650 a pound - and the tractor-trailer rig, the newspaper reported.
