Jim's Ten Revolutionary War Ancestors
On this marker are listed eight of my Revolutionary War Soldier ancestors who settled in Mason County: Andrew Akerd (Eckerd), Alexander Clendenin, Arthur Edwards, Thomas Lemaster, Robert Love, Peter Peck, John Roseberry, and George Roush. This plaque is located in Tu-endie-wei Park.
Following the Revolution, many Revolutionary War Veterans came over the Appalachians and bought large tracts of land in the wilderness. During the course of war with both the English and Native Americans, many of the soldiers had marched through or fought over these hills. This land was subsequently subdivided among their children who tended to remain in the area and survive on the land. They married into neighboring families with whom they were acquainted and usually lived nearby. I am a product of this evolution.
