Hello my name is Sam; some people call me Sammy. I live in St. Louis with my mom, Nicole, and my brother, Oliver. Oliver is a painted turtle and has lived with my mom for 5 years. I am part golden retriever part cocker spaniel and I’m originally from Huntsville, Alabama. Several months ago, (November, 1997) to be exact, the people I lived with in Alabama took my sister and me for a ride. They let us out to play and then drove away. Rosie (that's my sister) and I were scared and didn’t know how to get back home. Then some nice people came and took us to a different home. Rosie went home with a lady named Carolyn and I went home with Jim. I stayed with Jim, my foster dad, for about a week. I was still scared and missed Rosie, but Jim had 2 puppers, Jack and Kyrie, and they made me feel better.

Jim found a new mom for me, but she lived in St. Louis, Missouri. So one of Jim’s friends and her pupper took me for a road trip all the way to Granite City, Illinois. We met my new mom at the Hardee’s there. I didn’t want to get out of the car because I was scared. I was so scared that I was shaking. So my new mom picked me up and gave me a big hug and told me how pretty I was and then I peed on her coat (I really didn’t mean to though.) Then my grandpa and uncle drove us to my new home. I sat in the back with my mom and she fed me bones ‘cause I was hungry. I looked out the window for Rosie, but I didn’t see her.

I like my new home and especially my mommy. We do lots of stuff together. Oliver is lots different than me, but we are brothers (at least that’s what my mom says.) I have met a lot of very nice people. Although, I’m usually scared of some people at first, if they pet me enough and give me treats I won’t be scared anymore. I am taking obedience class and have a buddy named Mike who is in the class too! Mike and I look like we could be brothers, I wish we were! I still miss all my friends in Alabama (especially Rosie) but my mom says someday we can go visit. My mom also said something about a HUGE golden get together next year. I’m sooooo excited I have to sit on my tail to stop it from wagging!
