The Wiltshire Wills Project at the Wiltshire and Swindon Record Office (Trowbridge) aims to preserve the collection of wills at the Trowbridge CRO, and recatalogue them, eventually publishing the catalogue on the Internet. They are happy for us to publish independently an index to persons mentioned in the wills, and transcripts of the wills. These services would be complementary. The name index and transcripts are produced with the help of many generous contributors. It is a condition of the Record Office permission that no-one may use any transcript or copy, or part thereof, as part of a profit-making publication, nor distribute same other than free of charge, UNLESS permission to do so is first obtained from the Wiltshire and Swindon Record Office. This is IN ADDITION TO obtaining permission from the transcriber through myself. If you do see compilations from this database for sale, please do not waste your money on them - they will always be available free, (except for any expenses incurred in making copies), from this site or from the Record Office.
The transcripts are 'under comstruction'. Some are now available, and should be accessible from clicking on hypertext links in the index, which should now be 'live'. I would be grateful if someone would try this out, and let me know if it is not working. Please note that copyright may exist over these transcripts, and permission of the author should be obtained before reproducing them, except single copies for personal research purposes. I am also still looking for more of your transcripts to index.

Other Hundreds are to follow as I work my way through uploading them, and as transcripts come in from YOU please. The current coverage is of mainly the Whorwelsdown Hundred - the area of Trowbridge and Westbury and nearby, and Amesbury and some areas around Salisbury. Contributions for indexing are still welcome - please send any transcripts you have (if you are willing for us to publish them). Please give as full a reference as you can, including the testator, dates, and Court of Probate, and which hundred or town the person lived in. They can be sent to : "bryntegtywyn05 at btinternet.com" (please re-type with an @ sign) But only certain (older) filetypes are supported ( plain text files, plain e-mails, wordperfect up to version 7, .jpg .tif and .gif files are ok)
