Excerpt from the local newspaper:

BLIZZARD '99 JUST WON'T BACK OFF

The storm is expected to become the snowiest ever with today's downfall. For the third straight day, the Blizzard of '99 wouldn't let go.

West Michigan's worst snowstorm in nearly 30 years was expected to become the snowiest on record by day's end, with snow squalls continuing through at least midnight.

Swirling snow continued to clog highways and neighborhood streets this morning, extending Christmas break for thousands of students and trapping air travelers hundreds of miles from where they'd rather be. It even closed most stores in Woodland Shopping Mall.

Nearly 19 inches of snow had piled up over the weekend and through early today at the Kent County International Airport, just shy of the record for a single snowstorm: 21.1 inches from Dec. 10 to 13, 1970.
