McKinney Courier Gazette July 1921

To Hon. Wallace Hughston, president, and officers and board of directors of the Collin County Ex-Confederate and Old Settlers Picnic and Reunion Association: We your committee appointed to present resolutions of respect to the memory of the late Sam H. Fox, former vice president of this Association, beg leave to report as follows:

WHEREAS, it has pleased our all-wise and omnipotent creator to remove from our midst our esteemed friend, comrade and official of this Association who died at his home in this city on the 24th day of April 1921, and

WHEREAS, Sam H. Fox, who was a native of Missouri, became a citizen of Collin County in the year 1850, settling in the western portion of Collin county where he continued to reside until his removal to McKinney thirty-two years ago, And

WHEREAS, in 1861, when the drum beat was sweet music to the patriotic ear, Sam H. Fox heard the call of the Southern Confederacy, joining a company of soldiers recruited for Alexander’s Regiment. He was later made a sergeant of his company and saw hard services in several states in behalf of the southern cause, receiving severe wounds the marks of which he bore to his grave, And

WHEREAS, Mr. Fox was an influential citizen who was always deeply interested in the progress and welfare of his community, taking a leading interest in the solution of public questions affecting the moral, religious and educational life of our city and county, having served this county as a faithful public official, and at the time of his death was an honored official of this Association, being a vice president for many years, in which capacity he was active and efficient to the last: there, be it

RESOLVED, That in the death of Sam Hockaday Fox, this Association has lost one of its most useful officials, the community one of its most esteemed Christian gentlemen, the county, state and nation one of its most loyal and patriotic citizens. Be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of these resolutions be spread upon the minutes of Association, a copy furnished to the press, and a coy forwarded to the family of the deceased.

Respectfully submitted,
