JIM HARRIS

Jim Harris, born April 3, 1831, N. C., died Marcy 6, 1895, in Terrell, Texas. He married a woman from Dodd City, Fannin Co., Texas. They rode horse back from Fannin County to his ranch three miles north of Nevada. She took sick on the way and lived a few days. He buried her in her wedding clothes. He waited on her and never took his clothes off from the time he left for home till he buried here. There is a broken headstone in the Harris cemetery on the ranch that says, "Sarah, wife of." She may be the same person.

Jim Harris went to the Gold Rush in 1849. He was gone two years and came back with a bag of gold. He went into the cattle business. At that time the area was all open range. He rode horse back, always wore a red blanket across his shoulder and his casket was covered with a red blanket.

There is a James Harris, born 1836, died April 20, 1861, buried in the family cemetery.
