MRS. J. B. LAIR PASSES AWAY AT CITY HOSPITAL

August 21, 1937 McKinney Courier Gazette


Funeral services for Mrs. J. B. Lair, 70 years, 10 months and 11 days old, who died at the McKinney City Hospital Saturday afternoon, August 21, at 3 o’clock after a two weeks’ illness, were held at the Anna Baptist Church, of which she was a member, Sunday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock, conducted by Rev. George Umphrey, Pastor.

Interment followed in the Highland Cemetery, North of Melissa, with the Isaac Crouch Funeral Home in charge.

Pallbearers were Grady Giles, Everett Slaughter, Herbert Rutledge, Hosey Rutledge, Sam Baldwin and Lewis Baldwin.

Marietta Strange was born in Kentucky October 10, 1866, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Strange. She had been a resident of this state and county for the past fifty-three years.

She was preceded in death by her husband several years ago.

Surviving are eleven children, as follows: C. E., L. L., R. L., O. O., W. D., R. E., and J. B. Lair, Jr., of Anna; Mrs. R. F. Strother, Mrs. Clyde Walthall and Mrs. E. T. Massey, also of Anna, and Miss Lena Lair who is a Missionary in West Africa.

Surviving brothers and sisters are: J. A. Strange of Princeton, R. E. Strange of Wichita Falls, Mrs. J. W. Roach and O. A. Strange of Oklahoma; J. T. Strange of Kentucky and Mrs. Jean Nichelson of Georgia.
