John Murr
1837 - ca 1875

Submitted by Brenda Kellow, CG, CGI

1. John MURR was born in 1837 in Cocke Co., Tennessee. John died in either Kaufman or Collin Co., Texas, about 1875 at age 38. Murr and his family are on the 1870 Cheatham Co., TN population census. John is 34, a farmer, no real estate, $400 (or $600) personal property. They left Tennessee because it was so torn up after the Civil War. By 1870, the roads were being repaired after the damage and neglect endured during and immediately following the Civil War. The people were on the move to leave the war-torn South. Families began to stream into Texas and Collin County.

John married Mary in Tennessee. Researchers hypothesize Mary’s maiden name is Talbot, but that has never been proved. She was born in Tennessee. Mary died about 1875/1876, possibly in route from Tennessee to Texas.
