George Stiff, aged 24
years, of the Lowery Crossing community died at the home of his parents, Mr.
And Mrs. W. W. Stiff, on South Chestnut street, this morning at 9 o'clock,
of tuberculosis Mr. Stiff had not been in good health for the past six or
eight months, although he was able to be up and look after the management of
his store, which he was conducting at lowery Crossing. Owing to his bad
health he was, a few months, ago, forced to retire from business, and he and
his wife left for New Mexico, hoping the change in climate would prove
beneficial to his health. After remaining there for a while and feeling no
better they returned home and since that time ha had been confined to his
bed the greater part of the time. He came to visit his parents two weeks ago
and continually grew worse and at the above stated time this morning quietly
breathed his last. The attending physician stated this morning to the father
of deceased that his son's stay here was a matter of only a few days, and
yet he might live for several days, but not to be surprised should he died
at any moment. It was while Mr. Stiff was at the physician's office talking
about his son's condition, that he died.
Deceased was born at
Lowery Crossing and has been principally reared in that community. Six years
ago he was married to Miss Maude Jones, daughter of Mr. And Mr. J. A. Jones,
who now reside at Viney Grove. He is survived by his wife and one child, a
little girl two years old. He also leaves his parents and two brothers and
two sisters to mourn his departure, as follows: Sidney Stiff of Midland,
Gordon Stiff of Wilson Chapel community, Mrs. George B. Kindle of the Enloe
community and Mrs. Addie Shell of this city. He was a consistent member of
the Baptist church.
The funeral services will
be held ?
