JOTTINGS ALONG THE WAY

[G. W. TALLANT]

by Mrs. O. S. Scott

Weekly Democrat, October 21, 1938

G. W. Tallant, living six miles east of McKinney, hands his representative of our paper, $1.50 with which to send him the Weekly Democrat-Gazette and the Semi-Weekly Farm News at clubbing rate for the next year.

On the day of our visit to the Tallant home, we found Miss Ruth in charge of the household duties, and we enjoyed a visit with this charming young lady, in the meantime her father, who was cutting feed with a hoe, but let the implement slip with such force as to cut through his trousers and penetrate through his leg to the bone, making a painful s well as an ugly wound. Miss Ruth rendered first aid with home remedies and Mr. Tallant returned to his work after asking to be placed on our list of readers.

G. W. Tallant was reared, in Arkansas, being one of several children as follows: Riley Tallant, Cleveland, Ohio; Andrew Tallant, Route 5, McKinney; John Tallant, Route 1, Princeton; Jim Tallant, Wichita Falls. One brother, Flem Tallant, is dead.

G. W. Tallant married Miss Leha Gilbert, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ephraim H. Gilbert, residing north of Princeton. They are the parents of six children as follows: John Tallant, Route 3, McKinney. Mrs. Willie Mae Rose, Route 5, McKinney; Mrs. Bessie Ray Meuir, McKinney; Ladies, Ruth and Dell, at home.

Mr. Tallant and his family cultivate 100 acres of land and raise all kinds of feedstuff, corn and cotton. They have several milch cows and numerous White Leghorn chickens. They have an everlasting well of water, which affords plenty of water even in the driest weather for all purposes. We note by our travels over the county, a number of folk, hauling water to use, due to the continued dry weather.
