WILSON FAMILY REUNION

Democrat
July 20, 1915

A family reunion dinner was served Sunday, July 16, under the spreading ash and hackberry trees of the newly opened up Finch City Park by the Wilson family of this county. On account of the numerous branches of the Wilson name living in the county, it is proper to designate the particular Wilson family concerned in this enjoyable affair. They were, chiefly, the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of the late George A. Wilson, who came to Collin county in the forties, was for several years sheriff and at the time of his death nearly 25 years ago, was the largest landholder of the county.

George A. Wilson married Miss Harriet Kincaid, daughter of John M. Kincaid, another revered pioneer of the county. John M. Kincaid and Gov. J. W. Throckmorton were brothers-in-law—both having married Rattans.

George A. Wilson was the eldest son of Addison Wilson who came from Sumner county, Tennessee, to Texas and settled in Collin county in the year 1849. The seven children of Addison were Mrs. Peter Wallis, Mrs. Elijah Emberson, George A., T. B., Addison and Gus Wilson and Mrs. Angeline Cooke. All these children are now dead except Mrs. Emberson, who lives at Pilot point, and Gus (A. M.) Wilson who still owns and resides on his father's old homestead near Ash Grove.

George A. and Harriet Wilson were the parents of 13 children, all still living except three. Two of these died in childhood. Mrs. Jim (Lucy Wilson) Mallow died a few years ago. The surviving children of G. A. and Harriet Wilson are Alma Wilson, of Princeton; Mrs. W. A. Straughan, of McKinney; J. J. (Book) Wilson, of McKinney; T. B. (Ben) Wilson, of Princeton; Mrs. T. M. (Jennie)Wilson, of McKinney; Mrs. J. Frank Smith, of McKinney; George M. Wilson, of Bishop, Texas; Wallace C. Wilson, Mrs. Addie Massie and Mrs. Mary Burrage, all of McKinney. Sunday, July 16, was the 40th birthday of Wallace Wilson who originated the idea of a family reunion on that date of his brothers and sisters and their descendants.

Tables were arranged under the welcome shade trees and an abundance of good things to eat were spread to the delight of the inner man. Rev. Clyde A. Long, pastor of the First Methodist church of this city, returned thanks. A veritable feast was enjoyed by every one present. Among those present were:

Wallace Wilson, Mrs. Wallace Wilson, Robert Wilson, Ray Wilson, Jennie Marie Wilson, McKinney; Alma Wilson, Princeton; Charles A. Wilson, Princeton; Homer D. Wilson, Princeton; Mildred Wilson, Princeton; Hugh Johnson, McKinney; J. J. Wilson, Mrs. J. J. Wilson, Annie Laurie Wilson, Lucille Wilson, Bopeep Wilson, Mrs. Jennie Wilson, Paul K. Wilson, G. A. Mrs. Garver of Van Alstyne, was present. She is a granddaughter of John Kincaid and therefore a first cousin of the children of Geo. A. And Harriet Wilson. Her other was Miss Bettie Kincaid who married Miles McKinney. She is said to have bee the first child born in Collin county. She was also a sister of Mrs. J. P. A. Wallace, who died in McKinney a few years ago. The children of Geo. A. Wilson prevented from attending were T. B. (Ben) Wilson who is visiting in Young county, Texas; George M. Wilson, who lives in south Texas and Mrs. Addie Wilson Massie.

Visitors.

Mrs. C. W. Massie and son, Jordan A. Massie, both of Fort Worth, Texas. The two Misses Martin of Graham, Texas. Miss Irene Phelps, Rev Clyde A. Long, Mrs. T. J. Smith, F. C. Thompson, wife and two children, Mary Ann and William Lewis; Walter B. Wilson and wife.

This reunion occasion was much enjoyed by every one present. All joined in the wish that the event might be observed every year and become an annual affair for the enjoyment of the posterity of some of our county's most honored pioneers, This large circle of descendents include many of our most estimable citizens who are engaged in almost every sphere of active and usefulness.
