Hogan Witt was
born in Jefferson County, Tennessee, July 21, 1824, came to Texas with Eli
Witt, his father, in 1844, in 1846 located his head-right of 320 acres,
about 12 miles southwest of McKinney, where he reared a family of honest
sturdy boys and beautiful faithful girls; his wife was Louisa Rattan whom he
married in 1848.
A constant
member of the Baptist Church, which was organized at an early day, and which
still stands on ground donated by George White, an early settler, surveyor,
and large land owner. He reared six children, two boys and four girls; He
located on Rowlett Creek......
Hogan Witt and
Robert H. Brown joined Capt. Andrew Stapp's company of Rangers at old
Buckner on July 24, 1846. Later this company were mustered into the U. S.
Army and designated "Texas Mounted Volunteers." Witt was then 24 years old
and Brown 20.
