CULWELL CEMETERY - WESTON

Weston

Cemeteries of Collin County, Texas, Joy Gough

This cemetery is on the site of the A. J. (John) Culwell survey. John Culwell was a Methodist Episcopal preacher, who preached at Cottage Hill Methodist and others. This is the burial place of his brother James. Most of the Culwells are buried in the Cottage Hill Cemetery, which is a couple of miles southwest.

The Honey Creek crossing here was known as Pafford's Bridge, after the man who owned the land on the west of it. The bridge was a one-lane wooden one until recently. This was one of the locations of the Honey Creek Campground, which met annually. It was the start of the Cottage Hill Methodist Church and the Weston Methodist Church.

COLLIN COUNTY CEMETERY INSCRIPTIONS II mentions that Rex Crosswhite owns the land that the cemetery is on. He is no longer the owner. He lives on the north side of CR 171.

This cemetery is deeded in Vol 11, p 116. It is for 1 acre of land. A deed listed in Vol 2722, p 70, #8, provides for ingress and egress. The cemetery at one time contained 3 stones and several bois d'arc markers. A grass fire years ago destroyed the bois d'arc markers. The cemetery may be lost also.
