DOUGLAS CEMETERY - ROYSE CITY

1 MILE NORTH OF ROYSE CITY

Cemeteries of Collin County, Texas, by Joy Gough

John Douglas was born in Tennessee. He married Mary Ann Mills before 1850. For a number of years they lived in Giles County, Tennessee, where all 9 of their children were born. The family came to Texas around 1870. They were cotton farmers. On December 11, 1880, Mary Ann Douglas died and was buried on the family farm. She was the only person buried there. The rest of the family is buried in the City Cemetery in Royse City.

The stone for Mary Ann Douglas has been in the Collin County Museum in McKinney for at least 10 years. The exact location of the cemetery where she is buried is unknown. There have been efforts to get the Douglas family descendants to move the stone to the City Cemetery in Royse City with the rest of the family. The Rockwall County library has information on this family.
