HENDRICKS CEMETERY - WESTMINSTER

SOUTH OF WESTMINSTER ON THE EAST BANK OF SISTER GROVE CREEK.

Cemeteries of Collin County, Texas, by Joy Gough

This cemetery covers one acre of land. It is in a bad state of repair. Many of the stones are down. A number of branches and trees are down. There is very little vegetation growing under the dense trees. Most of the stones are intact and just need resetting. There are several bois d'arc markers.

There are 2 family plots with 6-foot chain-link fences and one with a pipe fence. The Walters family has a massive joint stone. Several of the stones that are down need to be reset before the writing deteriorates farther. There are timbers that suggest there was a small building in the cemetery at one time.

Members of the Hendricks family have lived here for over 100 years. They used to keep the cemetery in good condition. However repeated vandalism of the fence and stones made them stop maintaining it. It was once surrounded by a picket fence. The bois d'arc posts for a barbed wire fence are still standing.

Cows from the adjacent farm have been in the cemetery but not recently. There are several descendants of the Hendricks and Roper families still in the area. It is possible to drive to the cemetery if one has a pick-up truck and the ground is dry. The deed for the cemetery is listed in Vol 26, p 513.
