Cemeteries of Collin County, Texas, by Joy
Gough
This was once the site of a church and
school. The deed for them is listed in Vol S, p 189, and is for 2 ½ acres.
Although the sign says, "Old Liberty Cemetery", I believe this was actually the
location of "New Liberty School." Old Liberty School was southeast and closer to
Farmersville.
This cemetery is fenced on the west and south. It has been neglected in the
past. If it is not overgrown, the cemetery is visible from the road. There is a
driveway on the south side of the cemetery. The cemetery covers a couple of
acres. The church and school no longer exist. This cemetery contains one of only
3 metal obelisks in the county. It is for Willie L. Hooks.
The Sheriff's Department has cleaned the cemetery before At one time this was a
favorite spot for the school kids of Farmersville to have parties. There was
considerable vandalism here.
A Cemetery Association was formed in 1994 and is supposed to start work on
clean-up and restoration. They put up a sign and did a little clean up work. The
Sheriff's Department cleaned the cemetery again in April of 1995.
