Cemeteries of Collin County, Texas, by Joy
Gough
There was once a community here named
"Richards." It had a school by that name. It was named for the Richards family
that lived in the area.
This cemetery is right next to the roadway. It is fenced with a 4-foot chain
link fence with a large double gate. There is a sign over the gate which shows
1866 on the left and 1966 on the right with the name 'Old Richard,' without the
"s". The cemetery covers about 1 acre of land. Nine members of the Richards
family are buried here. I have not been able to find a deed for the cemetery.
The cemetery shows that it is getting some attention. The grass is cut at least
once a year. There are few briars and not much underbrush. Several of the large
monuments need to be leveled. One of the large stones is tilting at a very
precarious angle and should be straightened before it topples. There is very
little vandalism. COLLIN COUNTY CEMETERY INSCRIPTIONS I calls this the Old
Orchard Cemetery. I do not know where that name came from, unless they misread
the sign.
One of the people living near the cemetery has agreed to keep the grass cut. In
the spring the cemetery is covered with iris blossoms.
