POTTER'S FIELD CEMETERY - McKINNEY

Old Mill Road

Cemeteries of Collin County, Texas, by Joy Gough

This cemetery is listed separately because it is outside the Pecan Grove Memorial Park fence and it has a separate entrance. I have been told that there is an entrance from Pecan Grove Memorial Park, but I did not see it. This cemetery has separate care from Pecan Grove. I have been told by the Pecan Grove Cemetery Association president that the Potters' Field section is no longer a designation. The Potters' Field Cemetery is actually part of Pecan Grove Memorial Park and is included in the its deed.

This cemetery is across the fence from, and in the "L" of Pecan Grove Memorial Park in the southwest corner. The grass is cut for the cemetery itself, but not for the area near the road and other areas. It is not well maintained. The cemetery is unfenced. It covers at least a couple of acres of ground. There is a small chapel on the north side of the cemetery. The graves are marked with a variety of markers. Some have stones; some have crosses; some have just the funeral parlor marker; and one grave has a statue of St. Francis. There is a fenced area.

Many of the graves here are for Hispanics, and some people call it the Hispanic section. Indigents can be buried free in this section if they are from McKinney.

The cemetery is barely visible from Old Mill Road, and is not visible from McDonald Street, FM 5.
