SNOW HILL CEMETERY - BLUE RIDGE

CR621

Cemeteries of Collin County, Texas, by Joy Gough

The area around here is called Snow Hill. No one knows for sure where the name came from. Some people say it got its name because there was snow on the ground when the area was surveyed. There is a large Victorian-style house on the corner of CR 619 and CR 621. At one time Snow Hill had one of the finest rural schools in the county.

The Thompson and Campbell families deeded the land for the cemetery with the deeds listed in Vol 42, p 122 and 124. They are for the Thompson community and cover 4 acres. Evidently this area was known as Thompson. There was another Thompson community near Culleoka.

According to the Collin Baptist Association, the Snow Hill Baptist Church was organized in 1893. The current church building was constructed in 1919. In 1986 there were 49 members in the congregation.

This cemetery is unfenced and sits on a hillside in a grove of trees. The cemetery is rather large and seems to be divided into two areas on two different hills. The cemetery is well maintained and appears to be active.
