SONNTAG CEMETERY - FRISCO CR13 Cemeteries of Collin County, Texas, by Joy Gough The family of Fredriech Hermann Sonntag was from Germany. Fredriech Sonntag served in the Franco-Prussian War. Early in 1877, because of unsettled conditions in Germany, they came to Dallas by way of New York. Fredriech Sonntag said at the time that one day Germany was going to cause America trouble. In July of that year he bought 1078 acres of land about 1 mile south of present-day Frisco. Part of his land was given the name of Spanish Oaks because of the dense Spanish oak trees in the area. His land was in the area of west Collin County known as "the flats." This was open range at the time. It was noted for its tall grass and cougars. Fred Herman and Augusta Sonntag had 14 children. He bought additional land in Bosque County for his sons. In 1905 he bought 4400 acres of land in Mexico, where he moved with his wife and youngest child. He thought that Mexico would be a prosperous country because of its climate. He died and was buried there in December of 1915. This was at the time of the Mexican Revolution. Before the
Sonntag boys could get there to bring their mother back to the Frisco area, most
of the family's possessions had been stolen by outlaws. The change in climate
was too much for Augusta Sonntag and she died in January of 1916 from pneumonia.
She was buried in the family cemetery. One of their sons, Johann Gottfried
Sonntag, was noted as a weather forecaster in the Frisco area. Recommended
