It is needless to add that they have grown in popularity; it could not be
otherwise.
The boys are preparing for their annual banquet, an event that is looked forward
to with pleasure by all the members and quite a number of invited guests. The
affair will take place sometime during the holidays.
The next meeting of the State Firemen’s Association will be held in this city,
the day being set for the 8th, 9th, and 10th of next May. This is an event of
more than usual importance, and was sought by quite a number of towns, many of
them larger than McKinney.
McKINNEY FIREMEN'S BAND
Weekly
Democrat, May 2, 1901
A
Splendid Body of Music Makers -- Now in the Uniform
McKinney can now boast of one of the best bands in North Texas. It was organized
about a year ago since when by careful management, incessant practice and
considerable sacrifice, on the part of the members. The McKinney Firemen's Band
has become a fixed and important feature of our little city.
Its
twenty-six members have lately donned bright new uniforms and to-morrow evening
at 6 o'clock, the band contemplates giving their first daylight open air concert
on the court house plaza in its new attire. Its equipments are all new and
first-class, its music of high order in quality and execution, and its open air
concerts during the summer promise some good enjoyment in store for our
citizens. Many of our enterprising citizens are taking stock in the bank at 50
cents per share per month for six months. This helps the boys to defray their
incidental expenses and gives the subscriber an honorary membership in the
band.
We hope
to see all our businessmen do likewise and thus encourage the boys in their
efforts to maintain a superior band. The officers and members are:
