McKINNEY BUSINESS COLLEGE

This is one of the permanent indispensible institutions of our city. We believe in educating and training our boys and girls and our young men and young ladies for business. The professions are full and the age demands that we educate for business. The time has come when every town or city of 5000 or 6000 inhabitants should have a good well patronized business college. Not that these schools are to take the place of, or do the work of the literary schools, but after the foundation of education is laid in the literary school, and the mind is well stored with facts and figures every young man and young lady should attend a good business college, it matters not what profession or business they intend to follow.

We rejoice in the splendid success of the McKinney Business College, and the large patronage which it has enjoyed in the last few years. Its enrollment during the year is about 150 students who represent not only McKinney and Collin county but various other parts of the state of Texas, and some come from other states. There is not a more thorough and better equipped institution of the kind in the state. The graduates of the McKinney Business College have no trouble in getting good positions and holding them. It had graduates in eight or ten different states all holding good positions. They are in the banks, court reporters, reporters of daily and weekly newspapers, have charge of cotton compresses, managers of large stores, bookkeepers and stenographers in almost every kind of business.

The above picture represents the interior of one end of the room, showing the college bank and a part of the shorthand class.

There is also a wholesale department and the student is required to make out all notes, bills, checks, borrow money from the bank, handle the merchandise and carry on all kind of business in a practical way. They have the college currency and while working the banking set the student is required to make out all papers and spend some time in the bank as cashier where they wait on the other students. This is one of the secrets of the McKinney business College, she makes her students preeminently practical, and those who graduate from this institution can with ease fill any position from the banking business down.

N. R. Stone, President.
Prof. Stone is comparatively a young man, only 34 years of age, but a man of considerable experience. He was born and reared in Cooper county, Mo., received his literary education at Central College, Fayette, Mo. and graduated from Draughon's Business College, Nashville, Tenn. He spent ten years in the active ministery and has been with the McKinney Business College from its incipiency, and may justly and truly be called its organizer and founder.

Mrs. N. R. Stone.
Mrs. Stone teaches in the shorthand department. This department has turned out some of the best stenographers in the state, some of them are getting $100 per month. There are few lady teachers who have greater patience and skill for teaching shorthand than Mrs. Stone.
