Thomas Boulding of Sittingbourne 1787 proved 1791

In the name of God I Thomas Boulding of Sittingbourne in the County of Kent, Farmer and Shopkeeper being sick in body but of sound mind memory & understanding do make publish and declare this to be my last Will and Testament in manner and form following.

That is to say First .. executors .. as they can after my decease to pay all my small debts and for proving this my Will.

Next I give to my beloved wife Ann Boulding all my wearing apparel with all my Household Goods Silver Plate Watches Rings China and Linen that I am posseseth of at the time of my death. I give the same to my said wife and to her own proper use for ever.

Next I give and bequeath unto my said wife Ann all that dwelling house wherein I now live and during the time of her natural life free and clear from all rent interest or security for money. And after the death of my said wife Ann I then order my executor if any be then living and if not then I order my eldest son that shall be living to sell the said house with all appurtenances thereunto belonging and to distribute the said money between such of my five children as shall then be living, namely Robert George Mary Charles and James Boulding share and share alike.

Next I order my executor and executrix so hereafter named to carry on and use all my farming and grazing land that I now use in the best manner that they can until such time as my younger son James shall attain to the age of twenty one years and all the saving thereof to be kept in the hands of my executor and executrix for the maintenance of younger children that are not of age and other uses that the said may be wanted for.

Next I order that when my younger [son] James shall attain to the age of twenty one years that then my farm that I now use belonging to Charles Standly Esq at Tunstall next Sittingbourne that the said farm shall be then appraised and my son Robert shall have the same for the remainder part of his live to and for his own use by paying into his hands of the executor or executrix all such money as the said appraisement shall come to.

Next I order that as soon as my youngest son James Boulding shall come to age of twenty one years that then my executor or executrix or either of them that may then be living do sell and dispose of all my freehold estate being at Murston next Sittingbourne and likewise all my leasehold estate that is my own property or in partnership in Sittingbourne or elsewhere And also all the leases of house and land that I now use or lease that they or either of them do sell the same that is all the time that is unexpired of the same for more money that can be attained of the same And when all such estates shall be sold then I order my executor and executrix jointly and severally to pay of and clearly discharge all such mortgage or other encumbrance as now is or may be on the house where I now live that the same may be clear for the use of my wife Ann Boulding.

Next I give to my son in law Daniel Cowland five pounds.

Next I give to my son in law Thomas Cowland five pounds.

Next I give to my son in law William Cowland five pounds all which sums of five pounds each I order to be paid by my executors six calendar months after my estates are sold

And all the rest and remainder of all my money that is then left in the hands of my executor or executrix or either or their heirs and assigns shall then be shared between my five children or the survivors of them share and share alike that is to say Robert Boulding, George Boulding, Mary, now the wife of [ gap here ] Paternoster, or any other name that she the said Mary may be called, Charles Boulding and James Boulding in equal proportions.

And lastly I appoint Robert Wood, Baker at Sittingbourne and my wife Ann Boulding whole and sole executor and executrix of this my last will and testament revoking all former will or wills by me at any time heretofore made and declare this to be my last will contained in one sheet of paper to which I have sett and affixed my hand and seal this twenty fifth day of August in the year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred Eighty Seven. Thomas Boulding X his mark Signed sealed published and declared by the above named Thomas Boulding to be his last will and Testament in the presence of us who have hereunto subscribed as names and witnesses in the presence of the testator John Ratcliffe Robt Wood Wm Jordan

The before registered Will of Thomas Boulding decd was proved the second day of November 1791 before the Reverend John Gostling Clerk ... to the Worshipful Mr William Scott Knight Doctor of Laws Official General to the Reverend the Arch Deacon of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the oaths of Robert Wood and Ann Boulding widow the relict and executors named in the said Will they being first sworn duty to perform the same.
