Meisner & Roth are my mother's German-Russian roots who migrated from the Volga River region in Russia. The Roth family came from Balzar, near Saratov, (Saratow) in 1907. They arrived at Ellis Island, New York from Liverpool, aboard the S.S. Caronia, on Nov. 17, 1907. Their destination listed was to Lincoln, Nebraska.
Heinrich (Henry) Roth, my maternal great-grandfather was a shoemaker and had a shoeshop in the town of York, Nebraska. His son John Roth, is my maternal grandfather, who fought in the WWI, came home and married Amalia (Mollie) Meisner in 1919, and then served in the National Guard as a Sargent until 1940. At that time, John migrated some of his family for work in Los Angeles, California. Three of his four sons, Elmer, Robert and Johnny Dale, served in the military during WWII. His youngest son Gordon, who was 10 went to California with his four sisters, Frances, Esther, Genevieve 8, and Shirley 6. My mother Genevieve Margaret Roth Married William G. Fredrick in 1952.
Amalia Meisner, also known as Amalie or Mollie, my maternal grandmother, came to America aboard the S.S. Ivernia in 1911. Friedrich Meisner brought his family from Saratov, Russia, sailing from Liverpool into Boston. Their final destination was also Lincoln, Nebraska. The Meisner's were tailors and set-up a Meisner's Tailor shop in Lincoln, Nebraska on 6th St. which was 1 1/2 blocks east of Lincoln Av. Another form of the surname has a double s as in Meissner.
My paternal lineage is somewhat unknown. My father, William George Fredrick Sr., was born in Chicago, IL. on June 27, 1926, and served in WWII. His mother is Elsie Johnson and his father is William Gottlieb Fredrick, who played for the minor baseball team the Tigers. His mother was a native Chicagoian and her father was A. Johnson from Sweden. The Johnson's were descended from Sweden and the Fredrick's from Austria.
The paternal surname of Fredrick had been changed from Friederichs. At some time, one of the brothers put an "s" on the end of the surname, so half of the family are Fredricks and the other half are Fredrick. The Fredricks have remained in Des Plains, IL, whereas the non-plural surname part, the Fredrick family, moved to California in the 1940's.
Two Johnson sister's married two Fredrick brothers in Chicago. Elsie and William were united. Also her sister and his brother: Helen Johnson and John Fredricks whom had a son Kenneth and he went on to become the Chief of Police in Des Plaines, IL. Wilhelm and John's father, Frank Friederichs was married to their mother, Emma Fick of the Fick Farm. Supposedly, both were deaf one born that way and the other from an injury.
