                         EIGHTIETH BIRTHDAY

Few people live to see four score years, but Frederick Knobloch of our town
reached his eightieth milestone on Tuesday, and the entire family gathered at his
home to celebrate the occasion. He was born April 18, 1825, at Hineheim,
Strassburg, Germany. His parents emigrated to this country when he was three
years old and settled in Canton, Ohio. Fourteen years later they moved to
German township Indiana and sett'ed on a quarter section of land three miles west
of town. When twenty-four years old Frederick found for himself a helpmate, and
for flfty-six years they have sailed tne sea of life together out weathering
sborms and calms, because captain and mate had sense and grace sufflcLent to a
follow tho "Chart".

Six years ago they celebrated thelr golden wedding. After marrying, Mr.
Knobloch bought a tract of land a mile south of town, which is known as the
"Knobloch Homestead". Twelve children came to that home, five of whom have
survived unti1 this day: Samuel, Jacob, Steven, Isaac, and Mrs Edward H. Berg.
There are fourteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Mr. Knobloch and
his family own llOO acres of land in German township. The credit for this ls
largely due to the careful management by the head of the family. His children are
now settled on the various farms. He relinquished farming about four years ago,
and owns a comfortable home ln town where he and hls wife enjoy the fruitage of
their industry. Mr. Knobloch's success is due to five things: a good wife, which
is a gift of God; strong brawn, it is a great thing to have steady nerves and
tough muscles; industry, he was not "slothful in business"; clear brain, hls
sturdy common sense directed him in the accomplishments of specific ends; and
last but not least, integrity. In all his dealings with hls fellowmen he has been
upright, like a cube, six squares everyway the same.

One grandson, Jacob's boy, came from Minnesota to this celebration. Rev.
Evans and Rev. Williams and thelr wives were present. The first read the 90th
Psalm and prayed ln German, the latter nade a congratulatory speech in English.
Hymns were sung, a quartet by the sons, and a duet by Samuel and hls wife - "The
Way I won Mein Frau". This took the cake. A splendid dinner was served and an
enjoyable time spent. Long may the good couple live.
