Grammie's Heart is Growing

"Time stands still for no man"...nor grandmother...nor little boy...and so my little one is growing and I thought I needed an update to my previous page. As much as I would like to keep him little, I am enjoying watching him grow. He has gotten taller, stronger, and wiser to the ways of the world around him. His curiousity is endless as is his energy level, but we are still buddies, pals, playmates...I wish this would never change, but I know my days are numbered. There will be others soon who will take my place as a playmate, which is sad to me, but as it should be. So I must make the most of the opportunity while it is still mine. We still do all the things we've always loved to do together, but he has assumed more responsibility for their execution and most times refuses my assistance - if I let him.

I am delighted to report that this young man has inherited his grandmother's love of the beach and the ocean and all its wonders. His motto is "NO FEAR". This is both good and bad. I think it's great that he can enjoy the ocean, but I do wish he could develop a healthy respect for its power. He thinks he's ready to "surf" with the big boys, and just keeps going further and further out. It doesn't bother him that the waves wash over him and tumble him about, he just comes up laughing. Occurrences that send my heart racing, are just exciting and fun for him. When we are on the beach together, I know better than to try to sit and relax - I must remain within grasping distance.

We have been able to enjoy some new and different experiences this year because of his growing maturity. We recently took the auto ferry from the historic seaport town of South Port to Ft. Fisher to go to the large marine aquarium the State has there. He was quite interested in all the exhibits until a shark bumped the viewing window right in front of where he was sitting...that became one of his fastest dismounts!

We have also conquered the water slide this summer - well, at least Dennis has conquered it, I merely succeeded in making a fool of myself in an aborted rescue attempt, which resulted in me landing on the end of my spine with a sprained ankle and sprained wrist and other sore unmentionables. But, he became quite adept at the new adventure. I guess our next attempt will be on the miniature golf course - I ought to really be able to cause quite a commotion there!
