Holden Beach

The "Golden Beach"

Holden Beach, in Brunswick County, is one of many small islands located off the North Carolina coast. It is where I can be found for most of the summer. As a matter of fact, I consider getting a tan my summer job. I know it's rough, but somebody's got to do it. It is my little piece of heaven, my escape from the real world, my salvation!

Holden is located 35 miles north of Myrtle Beach, SC and 35 miles south of Wilmington,NC and is an entire universe apart from either of these two beaches. While these two spots hold a wealth of activites to engage your body, soul, and pocketbook, Holden Beach is a small family beach with very few bells and whistles. If you are looking for peace and tranquility this is the place you should be. You can, of course, jump in the car and be in the "big cities" in a matter of minutes - but when you're tired of that hustle and bustle thank heavens Holden Beach will be waiting for you.

Holden is bordered on one side by the Intercoastal Waterway and on the other by the Atlantic Ocean.

One of my favorite sights is to see the fishing boats come in from the ocean with their nets full and being followed by all the gulls in the area or just watch those boats out on the ocean.

As well as the gulls that reside in and around Holden Beach, there are pelicans and those precious little sandpipers, who will come right up next to your beach chair to receive a few cracker crumbs.

I am finishing this page in late October and I am already tired of the cool air that accompanies the arrival of fall and winter. I am dreaming of a warm sun, gentle ocean breezes, cool water and that special someone who completes the beach experience. Summer cannot come soon enough for me.
