Hix Jones Ray / Main Ray Page / Start page
Several sources on my great great great grandfather Hix Jones Ray states that Hix was related to the author of Ray's Mathematics, a popular math book in the 1800's. A recent post to the Ray-L@rootsweb.com list netted me information about Joseph Ray and would lead me to believe that Hix was not related to Joseph or well, ah, ... all suggestions are welcome!
From Sarah:
Son Joseph Ray was born 25 NOV 1807. He was the oldest of 9 children. Joseph
Ray was an author of arithmetic textbooks. He married Catherine G. Burt on 15
AUG 1831, Cincinnati, OH. They had three children, two died very young.
Joseph Ray died 16 APR 1855.
Sarah descends from Daniel Gano Ray.
Note: for a listing of the books that Joseph Ray published go to your favorite
search engine and look up the Library of Congress Card Catalog or the Tennessee
State Archives Web Page for their card catalog and you will be able to find
a list of mathematics books by Joseph Ray.
