1. Stuart Clifford Langford
was born on Feb 29 1888. Stuart's certificate of marriage lists his place
of birth as "New Jersey", as he had also personally mentioned at times.
However, the New Jersey State Dept of Healh stated that no record was found
for 1888, which might only mean that a report was not made. His military records
give his place of birth as "Roanoke, West Virginia, USA". He served
in the military from 1915 to 1916 in Bermuda. Regimental Number 410527. He
was a member of military band at Bermuda from 31 July 1915 to (May) 1916. He
served in the military from 1916 to Mar 1919 in Europe. "He was transferred
to active duty and was posted to he R.C. Regiment in France. In March 1919,
he was discharged and arrived back in Halifax N.S. on 09MAR 1919." - from
letter dated 11 July 1996 from Albert Langford. A copy of a handwritten travel
record was provided with the letter, but is highly illegible (due to reproduction
quality) although some entries are discernible and agree to that extent. He
died on Feb 27 1965 in Oceanside, San Diego county, California. He was buried
in All Saints Cemetery, San Luis Rey, San Diego county, California. Stuart's
headstone was incorrectly prepared, giving his name as "Stewart" and
his date of birth as "1887". He was also known as "Stu".
Since Stuart's records provide his mother's name as either Emily Genereuse or
Mathilda Pettit, it is possible that his father was married twice.
