QUILTS! A WONDERFUL HOBBY!

I started quilting in 1992. My Granny Pack had been quilting her whole life and then arthritis had gotten to be too much for her. I asked if I could have her quilting frame and she lovingly gave it to me. I have always been interested in sewing so quilting just seemed to be a natural extension of that. My first quilt was a saw tooth star. It's very pretty and I think I did a nice job of quilting it but the dog jumped on it and tore a hole in it. I took it off the bed and put it in the storage chest.

My second quilt was made for my oldest son. It is a nine-patch made to look very old fashioned. It took me about six months to finish it. I entered it in a quilt show nearby. I think I placed #65 out of 66 entrants. The comments were that it was not pieced together very well and that the sashing could have been better. The best comment was that the overall quilt was homey and the quilting was interesting. It was only my second quilt so I wasn't disappointed. If I had been quilting for 20 years then I would have been disappointed. I decided to keep going from there.

I've made approximately ten quilts so far. The largest one was made for my brother. It took me almost a year to make it. It's a king size quilt. It's a Shoo-Fly pattern.

My Granny's gone now but I like to think that I've inherited her love for quilting.
