What does bridging mean in
the Girl Scouts?
Bridging is when a
Girl Scout moves from one age level of Girl Scouts to the next.
For example, from a Brownie to a Junior Girl Scout.
Do you have to bridge to become
a Junior Girl Scout?
No. You will still
become a Junior Girl Scout and earn your Flying Up Wings patch, but you
will not recieve the Bridging patch.
What steps are involved in
bridging?
There are 7 steps
that the girls must go through to finish the Bridging process. These steps
vary for the different age levels. For a Brownie to Bridge to Junior Girl
Scouts she must:
1. Find out
about Juniro Girl Scouting.
2. Do a Junior
Girl Scout activity.
3. Do something
with a Junior Girl Scout.
4. Share what
you learn about Junior Girl Scouting with Brownie or Daisy
Girl Scouts.
5. Do Junior
Girl Scout recognitions activity.
6. Help plan
your Bridging (Flying Up) ceremony.
7. Plan and
do a Girl Scout summer activity.
(For a more detailed list
of these steps, please refer to the Brownie Handbook, pages 278-283)
What are we going to do to
help our girls bridge to Junior Girl Scouts?
A fun and quick way
to complete some of the Bridging steps is to attend the Lock-In. At this
lock-in, the girls will complete steps #1, #2, #3, and #5. The other
steps, except for #7, will be completed with the help of the troop leader
and co-leader.
If you cannot go to
the lock-in, the troop leader and co-leader will help you complete the
required steps to bridge.
The Dabbler Doings
is a council sponsered activity where the girls can work on completing
step #5.
You may attend one
of these activities, or both if you wish. The troop will pay half
of the expense for these activites.
