Filling out Entries...

An entry form will have the name of the Club giving the show, ie Mobile Kennel Club, the date of the show, the superintendent's mailing address, the closing date and a place to show the fee amount on it in the top section. Sometime there will be more than one show, ie Mobile Kennel Club and Pensacola Dog Fanciers Club or one club holding back-to-back shows on one weekend, in the top portion and you simply put a check mark in the the appropriate spots.

And now, the important parts......:-)

You will see a section asking for the Breed of the dog. Naturally, you will list the breed, ie Rhodesian Ridgeback, etc.

Another section will ask for the Variety.... some breeds are divided, such as Beagles...(sized into 13" and 15"), or Poodles -(sized into Toy, Miniature and Standard), or Dachshunds - Smooth, Longhair or Wire ( refers to coat type.) You must be familiar with your breed - does it have divisions? Which is my dog in? Again, all this is contained in the AKC Rules, which you can obtain free by requesting a copy or read them by going to their site.

Sex (gender)....you can put the dog show terms, dog or bitch, or simply put male or female.

Dog Show Class: You can refer to your rulebook or look through the premium list for the classes offered. Basically, these are ( both dogs and bitches):puppy - which can be divided into 6-9 mos, 9-12 mos, ( and offered at Specialty shows ..12-18mos), Novice, American-Bred, Bred-By-Exhibitor and Open. These are the classes for which your dog will be eligible. You can read the requirements for each in your rulebook - very important stuff!

There will also be sections for Jr. Handlers and obedience classes. You will not be using these.

Name of dog: This will be the exact name of your dog as listed on your registration slip.

You will see a list of things next: you will probably check the box marked AKC number, unless your dog has been imported into the US. Next to the box , you will write your dog's exact registration number as it is on your registration slip.

Next, will be date of birth - the dog's! and the country where the dog was whelped, ie, USA.

Breeder: The exact name(s) of the breeder(s) as listed on your registration slip.

Owner and address: The exact name of the owner(s) - you and your mailing address.

Finally, carefully read the statement....you are agreeing to abide by the AKCs Rules and you are stating that you are aware of them. Then sign your legal name and list your phone number - in case, the superintendent needs to get in touch with you about your entry.

Address the envelope with the superintendents address, figure out how much you owe and don't forget to include the check! There, that wasn't so bad, was it?

Getting your judging schedule, reading the catalog and figuring points.....all coming up  next .
