The first of this line that has been studied was Robert Johnson of
Isle of Wight County, Virginia. His will was made September
and recorded May 28, 1738. He married at least once, to Ann _____.
He had issue:

XI. Abraham Johnson whose will was made October 20, 1759 and
recorded March 7, 1776. He married Ann Jones, daughter
of Thomas Jones, d. ca. 1749 of Newport Parish, Isle of
Wight County, Virginia. See Jones Family. Issue:
A. Abraham Johnson, (Uncle of Spencer Carr), died ca.
1792-1796. Married ca. 1749 to _____ Carr.
B. Mourning Johnson, married _____ Powell
C. Ann Johnson, married _____ Dunn
D. Thomas Johnson, married Sarah _____
E. Nathan Johnson, d. ca. 1785-90. Married Amey Eley,
daughter of Robert Eley and Allis [Alice?] Gale, the
daughter of Thomas Gale and Alice _____ of Isle of Wight
County, Virginia. Nathan and Am[e]y Johnson of Isle of Wight
County had issue:
1. Mourning Johnson
2. Jordan Johnson who married twice. First on
February 17, 1787 to his first cousin, Margaret
Johnson, daughter of Abraham Johnson (d. ca. 1792-96)
and _____ Carr, and secondly to Holland Brewer. He had
issue:
a. Gale Johnson of Isle of Wight County,
Virginia whose will was made October 12, 1878 and
proved on February 2, 1880. At his death his wife
was Nancy _____. But he had probably married
Jemima Powell, for there is in Isle of Wight a
marriage bond dated February 3, 1817 for such a
marriage to take place. His will mentions the
following children:
(1) Ruth Johnson who married _____ Johnson,
and had issue:
(a) Joseph Johnson
(b) Sarah Johnson
(c) Missouri Johnson
(2) Abram P[owell?] Johnson Married in
Nansemond County [Bond, December 14, 1850 to
Margaret Hedgbeth. Issue:
(a) Ryland C. Johnson, born in
Nansemond County, Virginia February 16,
1867 [Birth Reg. of Nansemond Co.]
(b) John Abraham Johnson, born in
Nansemond County, Virginia. At the age
of 22 on January 21,1886, he was married
by Z. A. Post in Nansemond County to
Media Anna J. Luke, the 19 year old
sister of Charles A. Luke and daughter
of Isaac P. (d. ca. 1885) and Sarah F.
Luke [They were no "Lukes" in Nansemond
County Census of 1850]. She had also
been born in Nansemond County [Also see
Deed Book 28:297]. They had issue:
(1) John Letcher Johnson, born in
Nansemond County, Virginia. At the
time of his marriage [recorded in
Nansemond County] in Suffolk,
Virginia on January 16, 1923, he
was age 29. He married Lydia Mae
Baker, born in Nansemond County,
the daughter of William R. and
Mattie Baker. She was 25 when they
were married by F. W. Johnson.
