Some two years had passed since the closure of Kaleidoscope. Although radio fans based in South East London could hear a mediocre signal from Jackie in the south west, a group of professional radio enthusiasts decided the time was right to Launch London Music Radio. Billed as 'London's newest and most exciting radio station.....' LMR 222 metres did not have the staying power of its South West London Counterpart and was heard over a three year period.

With Disc Jockeys Richard Thompson (ex-Caroline) Mark Ellis, Cliff Osbourne, Terry Dene, Debbie Jones, Rob Lancing, Bob Edwards, Nigel Davis, Steve Hampshire, John Dawson, The Black Prince, Roger Anderson (alright ..it was me!) and regular contributors, this entertaining station provided a strong signal and gained a loyal following.

Also heard many times on FM, a major raid occured during Christmas 1976 when a three day planned AM/FM broadcast was raided after only a few hours following a complaint by Capital Radio who were getting decidedly edgy about London's two semi-pro landbased pirates. An internal rift in the station caused its eventual closure but not before TWO London Music Radios' were heard side by side on the waveband on the same day in early 1978! Hear a selection of rare trails and jingles on this page.

Mark Ellis and Terry Dene change the tapes at LMR 222, Grove Park, S.E. London, Summer 1977

Note the handle on the transmitter, for quick getaway!!
