BIOGRAPHY: The Fort Dodge Messenger & Chronicle, Tuesday, May 10, 1938 RITES HELD FOR MRS. ARNOLD, 68 HUMBOLDT, May 10 Funeral services were held Monday afternoon for Mrs. Frank Arnold, 68, who died Friday as the result of a lingering illness. The Rev. Harry Burns of the Methodist church officiated at the service in the church. For many years, Mr. and Mrs. Arnold managed the Arnold hotel and the alley back of the building was made into flower gardens by Mrs. Arnold whose hobby was making flowers grow in places which might otherwise be dumping grounds for rubbish. Interested in everyone, she had a host of friends. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Jacob Edge, her husband and six grandchildren and several brothers and sisters. Livermore Gazette May 12, 1938 DEATH OF MRS. ARNOLD Mrs. Frank Arnold, 68, a resident of Humboldt since 1911, died at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Edge, on Friday, May 6th. Heart trouble was the cause of her death. Mrs. Arnold had been ailing the past month, and her heart grew weaker until the day she passed away. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, May 9th, from the Methodist church at two o'clock, with the Rev. Harry Burns officiating. Mrs. Arnold was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Clark. She was born in Kossuth county on April 28th, 1870. She spent most of her early girlhood in Arnold and Livermore vicinity, attending public school at Livermore. She was graduated from the normal training school at Algona, and taught school for a few years. In August, 1892, she was married to Frank D. Arnold, and in 1911 they moved to Humboldt, where they have since made their home. They had one daughter, Mrs. Jacob Edge of Humboldt with whom the Arnolds have made their home the past 16 months. Surviving are the one daughter, Frank Arnold the husband, six grandchildren and the following sisters and brothers; E. W. Clark of Corvallis, Oregon; George of Yamhill, Oregon; Ross and Harry of Livermore, Mrs. Chas. A. Raney (Leila) of Livermore, and Mrs. Geo. Lauster (Flora) of Bigstone City, S. Dakota. The deceased is especially well remembered by the people of Livermore and vicinity, as her visits here were frequent in the early days when she lived at Arnold. Before and after her marriage she was a faithful news gatherer for these columns, when news was not so easily obtainable as now, and the doings at Arnold were chronicled every week in this paper, and the readers always watched for it eagerly. |
