     Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Jacobsen of near Humboldt, received word Saturday morning, April 7, that their son, Pvt. Donald A. Jacobsen was killed in action on Iwo Jima. The telegram stated he died from wounds in battle March 8th. Pvt. Jacobsen was a member of the U. S. Marine Corps and left for overseas in November. He and Robert Schroder, who was killed on Iwo Jima were in constant contact with each other. Ilene Jacobsen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Jacobsen, who is in the Waves, is now home on a ten-day leave which was granted after the news from the War Department came.

PVT. DONALD ANDREW JACOBSEN

Born April 20, 1925, at Humboldt, Iowa

Attended Humboldt Public Schools and was graduated from Humboldt High School in 1943.
Was inducted into the U. S. Marines at Des Moines, Iowa, on June 25, 1944.
Received his training at the Marine Corps Base at San Diego, California and was transferred to Camp Pendleton, California, in September, 1944.
Sailed November, 1944 for the South Pacific Area.
The last word received from him was his letter of February 14, 1945. A War Department message gave notice that Donald was wounded on Iwo Jima, on March 8, 1945 and died on the following day, March 9, 1945.
