Josephine Dondanville, the seventh child and third daughter of Ludwig Dontenville and Clara Brumt was born in Somonauk, Illinois April 9, 1852, two years after her parents arrived in the United States. During her early years, she lived with her parents on their farm in Serena Township. On January 25, 1873, she married Joseph Gabriel Ulrich, who was born in Alsace in 1848 and migrated to Northville township. There were eight children born to their marriage. Clara Anna, 1874; Aloysuis Edward, 1876; Marie Ida, 1878; Caroline Josephine, 1881; Joseph Martin, 1883; Mary Elizabeth, 1885; Clarence Henry, 1888; and Louis Ernest, 1891. All were born in Illinois and baptized in St. John the Baptist Church in Somonauk. In 1893, Josephine and Joseph followed her two sisters to Iowa, settling on a farm in Deer Creek Township, Humboldt County. In 1915, they moved to Fort Dodge. Joseph died June 19, 1939 and Josephine in November of that same year. They are buried together in Corpus Christi cemetery in Fort Dodge.
