Welcome
To
The Blue Moon Ranch
As I mentioned on the first page....they say that good things only come along once in a blue moon, well, Dan and I closed the loan on our land the day after the last blue moon (July,1996)! We've worked really hard to get something like this, it's always been our dream. Dan thought that the name "Blue Moon Ranch" was very fitting and I completely agreed! So, after the closing of the loan we took a video camera out to film our newly acquired property and a bottle of champagne to christen it!
Gracemont, Oklahoma is the home of the Blue Moon Ranch.
Gracemont is a very small town, with a population on the 1990 census of 339 people! It has one red light, one cafe, one combination grocery-gas-hardware store, one beer joint, several churches, one service station, the bank, the post office, an antique store, one drive-thru snack station called a mall (*S*), a school and a very few other business (feed mill, truckin'co., ect.).
Our ranch is located about 4.5 miles east of town. We own 118 acres, of beutiful land. We have a runnin' spring, which we're gonna build about a 5 to 10 acre lake on, within the very near future. We have big red rock hills and bluffs and lots of timber. The wildlife is plentiful. The deer are a site to behold when you pull up and they scatter!
We are in the process of movin' a house up to part of the land. We've cleared the land for it and Dan's buildin' the foundation right now. It should be ready for us to move into sometime this spring. This house will eventually be for our daughter Stacy Dawn, but for now she has to share with us! I've worried alot as I've gotten older how I would be able to care for her properly when I get older. I guess this is a problem for anyone that has a disabled person to take care of. We found out that we can get 24 hour care for her if she has her own home. She also can have roomates with simialar conditions, meaning that I can also help give some other parents the same kind of help that I will be getting! That really makes me feel like it will all be worth it!
Hopefully in the next couple of years, Dan and I will be able to afford to build us our retirement dream home, just around a hill and right up the driveway from Stacy's house. You know that ol' Mom and Dad still have to be close enough to keep a close check on everything. Our house will sit right by the lake that we're building. It's not gonna be an elaborate home or nuthin'...just want it to look like we're on vacation at a fishin' lodge or ol' country cabin! You know with a big deck and screened-in porch, where I can get up and have my coffee of a mornin' out there and watch the deer and other wildlife feed down by the lake! We'll probably be doin' most of the buildin' ourselves...with the help of alot of our friends. It's kind a like back in the good ol' days when you had barn raisin's, everyone shows up and works and then we have a big cook-out around a campfire and you know us... then we'll play a little music! *S* Thank God...for Good Friends and Family!
This page will continue to grow as we progress with things up on the ranch, please keep comin' back to see how we're doin'! Oh....and if you want....bring a few hammers and nails and come and help out...don't forget your gloves and of course an instrument or best singin' voice!!! *S*
