I'LL GIVE YOU WINGS!
(Thoughts for a first grandchild)
With your chubby, little hand in mine,
Sometimes, we'll walk and sometimes dine,
I will teach you how to read and draw,
You'll learn about Safety and the Law,
I'll guide your tiny steps and then,
I'll set you free....you can't depend,
On being a small child forever, so,
I'll give you wings and let you go!
But, I'll be here, if the winds, that blow,
Cause you to fall, for I love you so,
My eyes grow dim, but...I can see,
You are a blessing, that's meant for me!
A helpless child.....yet magnified!
By my true feelings....so deep inside!
I never dreamed, that there would be,
Such a strong bond, for you and me!
My life goes on, enriched and changed,
Upside down......and often rearranged!
A new arrival, on the modern scene,
Makes me search! "What does life mean?"

I regret to say, that I do not have any grandchildren, but I can well
imagine how a grandmother or grandfather feels, when they are presented
with their first grandchild.
